Itinerary

Day 1: Cuiaba - Chapada dos Guimaraes / Arrival

You will be picked up from Cuiaba Airport and taken to Chapada dos Guimaraes which is 65 km away. The ride will be on an asphalt road passing by some walls with waterfalls that are up to 400 m tall. You’ll make stops to visit the Cachoeirinha, Viewpoint of the Veu da Noiva. Once you arrive at the village you’ll have lunch at the Mirante do Morro dos Ventos with a spectacular view over the city of Cuiaba. Afterwards it’ll be time for hotel check-in. In the evening you can enjoy the sunset from this lookout at the geodesic center of South America. Then there will be free time to visit some artisanal shops in the historical center of the Chapada.

Day 2: Chapada dos Guimaraes - Nobres / Macaw Bird Show

After breakfast you’ll head off to Nobres to have lunch. You’ll arrive at the pousada, then afterwards go on an boat excursion floating down to where the Salobra River starts, during this boat excursion behold the piraputangas, stingrays and other aquatic diversity. After cruising down the river it will be time for lunch. In the evening you will go and watch the sunset at the Lagoa das Araras which is located 1 km from the village of Bom Jardim in Nobres country. Then you’ll return back to the Pousada and have dinner.

The pond features characteristics of a swamp in transition with the Amazon's Cerrado of Mato Grosso, the Lagoon of Macaws’ vegetation consists primarily of Buritis, a kind of palm tree typical of the region. When the tree dies, the Buriti loses its crown and its stem is hollow which forms a habitat for macaws, maritacas, parakeets and other birds that build their nests and breed on site. These and several other species of animals (the macaws being the predominant species) can be observed with the naked eye daily at around 5:30 pm. This spectacle is to be enjoyed along with a very beautiful sunset

Day 3: Nobres / Snorkeling Adventure Day

Today you will wake up early to watch the sunrise on the Lagoa das Araras then return back to the pousada for breakfast. Afterwards the tour continues to the Triste river. In this river you will have a good chance to see different types of fish such as piraputanga, string rays and golden fish on the planned snorkeling excursion. Then it’ll be time to return to the pousada for lunch, and afterwards during the evening you’ll go on a hike near the Pousada to visit the Lagoa das Araras. Later when you come back to the pousada it will be time for dinner.

Day 4: Nobres - Sao Jose do Rio Claro / Bird-watching Day

After breakfast the trip will continue to Sao Jose do Rio Claro where you will stay in the Pousada Jardim da Amazonia. The trip there is about 180 km and will take about 2-3 hours. Once you have arrived it will be time for lunch and to check into your room. Afterwards the adventure goes on with some bird watching along the Orchid Trail to see some humming-birds, parakeets, blue-headed parrots, masked trogons, etc. The bird-watching tour will be followed by dinner.

Day 5: Sao Jose do Rio Claro / Swimming with the Fish

The day will begin with breakfast in the Pousada and afterwards you’ll go on a hike along the Angelim Trail to observe wildlife including various species of birds. Lunch will be eaten in a hut amongst the nature. During the afternoon you’ll take a boat trip through the Claro River and have a chance to bathe and swim in the natural pools of the area, a water source with many different types of fish from the region. You’ll then watch the sunset on the Lagoa da Arara and return to the pousada for dinner.

Day 6: Sao Jose do Rio Claro - Pantanal / Motorboat Excursion Day

Today will start off with breakfast and then the tour will continue heading towards the Pantanal along the park road where you will make stops to observe the various fauna and flora of the region. Once you arrive you’ll have lunch at the Pousada. After lunch the adventure will continue with a boat trip to see some more fauna and flora and the sunset. Later it will be time for dinner back at the pousada. Afterwards the tour will go on with a nocturnal trip.

Day 7: Pantanal / Sunrise Rowboat Day

Day seven will be an early to rise day so you can start your day off by watching the sunrise while on a rowboat. Afterwards you will return back to the pousada to have breakfast, followed by a motorboat tour (2nd part of the river) After the trip it will be lunch time and then you will go on a nature trail to observe different types of mammals and birds. You’ll return to the pousada for dinner and then go on a night safari.

Day 8: Pantanal / Transpantaneira Day

After breakfast the tour will go on with a long hike to observe and hear different types of birds of the Pantanal. Later you will return to the pousada for lunch, pack your bags and head to Porto Jofre Hotel, which is located at the end of the Transpantaneira. On the trip to the hotel along the Transpantaneira there will be opportunities to see different types of birds and mammals. Your driver will make some stops for you to take pictures of, hear, and observe all the different types of wildlife and plants you will hopefully encounter on this route. Afterwards you will arrive at the Porto Jofre Hotel, check-in, have dinner and the rest of the night to relax.

Day 9: Pantanal / Jaguar Safari Day

The day will begin with breakfast and follow with a boat trip on the Cuiaba River to observe different types of mammals (jaguar, capybara, monkeys, otters, etc). Lunch will either be on board the boat OR you will return to the hotel. Later on after a long day of animal-watching you will return to the hotel for dinner and prepare for the next adventure: a night tour along the Transpantaneira to observe nocturnal birds and mammals.

Day 10: Pantanal / Sunset Horseback Ride

After a nice breakfast, the tour continues as you return to the beginning of the park and head to the Pousada Piuval. On the way there your driver will make stops for you to observe birds and mammals. Once you arrive, you’ll have lunch then have a chance to ride on horseback to watch the sunset. Then it will be time for dinner and the rest of the night is yours to relax.

Day 11: Pantanal - Cuiaba / Departure Day

Before breakfast you will head out to an observation tower to watch the sunrise in the Pantanal. Then you will have breakfast, pack your things and return to Cuiaba.

Tip: Bring insect repellent, sunglasses, hat or cap, flashlight, comfortable clothes, a small backpack for excursions, sneakers, sandals, swimming gear and a raincoat. Avoid black clothing because they attract mosquitos. For animal watching we recommend camouflage.
