Turtle Lodge, which was established in 2010, is located about 62 miles (100 kilometers) southeast of Manaus in the Mamori River region on the banks of Turtle Lake. The concept of the lodge focuses on sustainable tourism and is especially recommended for travelers who want to get to know the pristine Amazon Rainforest. Given the lodge's location and the exciting excursions, you will experience the people and life in the rainforest up close.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival from Manaus and Wildlife Observation

Included: Transfer with a Stop at the "Meeting of the Waters" (in-group, 3.5h) | Boat Excursion (in-group) | Lunch, Dinner

Your day will start at the airport or your hotel in Manaus at about 8:00 a.m., when your English-speaking guide will pick you up for the approximately 3.5-hour land and river transfer to the Amazon Turtle Lodge. The transfer itself is an adventure as you will cross the “Meeting of the Waters,” possibly see pink dolphins, and gain first impressions of the Amazon and its people. You will reach Turtle Lodge at around noon and have a peaceful lunch. After lunch you will go on a boat tour which will give you an overview of the region. During this trip, you might be able to observe monkeys, sloths, iguanas, freshwater dolphins, spiders, or a variety of bird species. Your specialized English-speaking guide will help you spot animals in the dense forest. You will be back at the lodge's restaurant in time for dinner.

Day 2: Amazon Rainforest from Sunrise to Sunset

Included: Sunrise Tour, Nature Hike, Canoe Excursion, Caiman Spotting (in-group) | Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Before daylight, if the weather conditions are suitable, you will head out and experience a sunrise that only the Amazon can offer. At this early hour, with a bit of luck, you will see interesting, active animals. Afterwards you will go on a jungle tour and your guide will share interesting facts about survival in the jungle. The guide will show you techniques on how to climb trees and where to find drinking water and food. You will return to the lodge at noon. After lunch you will set out in a canoe to hopefully see more birds and animals of the region. In the evening you will go on a night safari to discover caimans.

Day 3: Life in the Amazon

Included: Meet the Locals, Piranha Fishing (in-group) | Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

In the morning you will visit a Caboclo house to learn about the customs and culture of the locals, and also visit a cassava plantation. This is a good opportunity to take pictures and see how fruits, para-nuts, herbs, vegetables, and spices are collected in the jungle. For lunch you will be back at the Turtle Lodge. In the afternoon you will go on another tour for piranha fishing, which is also a great opportunity to observe the surroundings and look out for animals on the river margins.

Day 4: Jungle Tour in the Amazon Rainforest

Included: Nature Hike (in-group) | Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast you will go on a jungle tour to get to know some medicinal plants. Your guide will provide a lot of interesting information and explain against which diseases native plants can be used. You will also learn how rubber is extracted from rubber trees without cutting them down. Back at the Turtle Lodge, lunch will be waiting for you. In the afternoon and evening you will have the opportunity to try and observe animals near the lodge, enjoy a swim in the lake, or just have some leisure time.

Day 5: Boat Trip and Return to Manaus

Included: Dolphin Spotting (in-group) | Transfer (in-group, 3.5h) | Breakfast, Lunch

After breakfast, you will leave the lodge by boat to cross flooded areas, known as “igapos,” and navigate through small channels, known as “igarapes,” to observe pink dolphins. During this excursion you will also visit a community and school in an Caboclo village. After lunch you will return to Manaus.

Info

  • All excursions and transfers will be done in small groups with other travelers. The limit for baggage is 44 lbs (20 kg) per person. Excess baggage can be stored in Manaus at the lodge’s office or at your hotel.
  • The itinerary may be adjusted due to weather conditions. The order of excursions may change and animal sightings cannot be guaranteed.
  • Credit cards are not accepted at the lodge. Please bring some cash for additional beverages/drinks at the bar and restaurant.
