Brazil Travel Packages: Chapada Diamantina
The Chapada Diamantina National Park is located on a vast plateau in the heart of Bahia and owes its name to the region’s diamond deposits. The usual starting point for excursions is the city of Lencois. The Diamond Mountains form the northern tip of the Espinhaco mountain range, which extends from Minas Gerais, in Southern Brazil, to Bahia. Spectacular waterfalls, caves and impressive table mountains fascinate visitors. The flora and fauna of Chapada Diamantina is very diverse due to the variation of the mountain heights, which range from 720 feet to 6,670 feet (220 meters to 2,033 meters). High season extends from February to June. In the low season, from August to December, it gets quieter. Hiking enthusiasts expect impressive nature experiences. Always go hiking with an experienced guide, because the paths in the extensive rock labyrinth are not signposted. Above ground you can undertake exciting tours by bicycle, canoe, on foot, or with mules or horses. Cool waterfalls, rivers and lakes invite you to take a refreshing swim afterwards. The climate is semi-arid, so you can enjoy sunshine almost year round. The most precipitation occurs from October to February with daily high temperatures ranging between 81 °F (27 °C) and 82 °F (28 °C). In the dry season, from May to September, it gets only slightly cooler, with an average high between 75 °F (24 °C) and 77 °F (25 °C).
