Brazil: Construction of the Largest Wind Farm in Latin America

Brazil is building the largest wind energy complex in Latin America in Santa Vitória do Palmar, near the Uruguayan border. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2014, but parts of the complex are expected to be connected to the grid as early as mid-2013. Brazil is the leading country in Latin America in terms of sustainable energy production. Almost half of the total energy demand is based on renewable sources. The new wind-energy complex will generate approximately 957,000 MWh of electricity per year, which is equivalent to the annual energy requirements of 510,000 Brazilian households. At the same time, 370,000 tons of CO-2 emissions per year will be reduced.
