Brazil: Spectacular Discoveries during Excavation in Amazonia

Under the direction of the Finnish archaeologist Martti Pärssinen, a team of archaeologists has made a sensational discovery in the Amazon region of Brazil. The remains of an ancient civilization are comparable in size and beauty to the pyramids of Egypt.
Various excavations brought to light incomparable artifacts and ceramic forms. Through the deforestation of the Amazon jungle, many geometric shapes were discovered, which could only be guessed at in aerial photographs. In the state of Acre North and the southwest of the Brazilian Amazon basin, several hundred structures of this kind were discovered. The discovery is a sensation because it was previously assumed that the Amazon region was only sparsely populated.
A radiocarbon test shows that the oldest structures were built about 2,000 years ago. Furthermore, the analyses show that this civilization suddenly died out more than 700 years ago. This was probably caused by a hitherto unknown disease, which was spread by the Europeans.
About 300 kilograms of clay shards caused some excitement among the scientists because they show a kind of ornamentation that is completely new for science. Other figures prove connections to other more distant peoples that were native to the Andes.
