Brazilian Living Part 1: Pousadas

Feeling at Home Away from Home
To help you get to know the country and its people on your trip to Brazil, we now present popular Brazilian pousadas. Say "tchau" to impersonal hotels and “bem vindo" to family inns. Pousadas are spread all over Brazil and you will feel right at home in these lovingly furnished accommodations.
In contrast to a hotel, a pousada accommodates fewer guests. In general, the atmosphere is more familiar and, instead of business people, one meets more families and travelers in pousadas. These cozy inns are mainly visited by vacationers, who want to relax for a few days and are interested in exploring the area.
Pousadas are perfect for making new acquaintances. Especially at breakfast, it is almost impossible not to be involved in at least one conversation. The breakfast offered often includes homemade products, such as cakes or freshly picked fruit. No wonder “café da manhã” (breakfast) is so popular with guests. A cup of coffee is a great way to chat about upcoming plans or travel recommendations.
Real Insider Tips and an In-House Library...
If you are interested in the history of your pousada, the owners will certainly be happy to tell you about it personally. As pousadas are often run by families or couples, you will probably meet the owners on more than one occasion. They usually have the best insider tips for you and can make helpful recommendations.
Even if the weather is not on your side and you decide to spend some time in the pousada, there are plenty of opportunities to keep yourself busy. What you might know from hotels as a waiting room or lounge is comparable to a living room in the pousada. Often there is an inviting sofa available for you and sufficient reading material is also provided. Just browse through the in-house library and maybe you will even find the perfect book for your next beach day.
The Ocean Calls: Enjoy the Beaches in the Northeast
If you prefer beaches, then you are on the safe side in the Northeast of the country. Here sunshine is almost guaranteed and countless pousadas line up on the beaches. Hammocks dangle enticingly on the verandas of the inns and even though they are close to the ocean, most pousadas have their own swimming pool.
Those who prefer to get away from the tourist hustle and bustle can discover largely unknown beaches in some places. An example would be the small village of Parajuru, which is located approximately 75 miles (120 kilometers) from Fortaleza. Here, the paradisiac landscapes can still be enjoyed in a peaceful atmosphere. The excellent wind conditions also make the heart of every surfer beat faster. Kitesurfing and windsurfing are popular leisure activities in Parajuru. At the pousadas located here, you will hear the sound of the ocean and find accommodations for every vacation preference. Many of the accommodations not only offer rooms, but you can also stay in separate houses with your friends or family.
Even if the Fireplace Is Lit in Brazil...
If you feel more comfortable in front of a cozy open fire instead of in a hammock, we advise you to visit the South of Brazil. In the state of Rio Grande do Sul, cool temperatures can occur in the winter. However, the pousadas you will find here are prepared for such weather. Some accommodations are even equipped with heating. Moreover, the wooden panels of the houses and the carpets on the floor provide a cozy atmosphere.
Brazil's pousadas always surprise you with their love of detail. In each of these small accommodations, you have the possibility to interact with locals and collect unique impressions during your vacation in Brazil. For individual travel requests, we would be happy to assist you with advice.
