Record harvest in Brazil

February 01, 2013

Despite the global economic crisis and a severe drought in the northeast of the country, the Brazilian agricultural sector reported a record harvest of 166 million tons of grain in the last year. Nevertheless, the global economic crisis also left its mark in the largest country in South America and weakened the share of agriculture in GDP. The main reasons for the decline in agriculture are the slower economic growth in China, the weakening of the US economy, as well as the adopted austerity measures of the European Union.
