Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival to Campo Grande
Included: Rental Car | Night Walk (in-group) | Dinner
Campo Grande to Pousada Aguape: 120 miles (193 km)
Your English-speaking guide will be waiting for you at the airport in Campo Grande. After retrieving your rental car, you will drive together with your guide from Campo Grande for about 3 or 4 hours to Pousada Aguape. There is no cell phone signal on the last part of the route. It is therefore advisable to send a message to the lodge with the help of your guide before leaving the paved road, so that the local team knows that you will be arriving. Especially during the rainy season from December to March, the earth road can have large mud holes. However, this section of the road is not endangered by flooding and can be traversed year round. On the way you will gain a good first impression of one of the most important ecosystems in Brazil. The Pantanal is home to a variety of unique and endangered plant species and animals such as capybaras, foxes, anteaters, otters, monkeys, and many more. Pousada Aguape offers you numerous excursions during your stay, always taking into account the weather conditions and the season (spawning and breeding season). To be able to observe the nocturnal animals at close range, a short night hike in the evening is recommended. With a little luck you will see foxes, capybaras, anteaters, and caimans.

Day 2: Nature Experience Pantanal

After breakfast and together with your English-speaking guide, you will explore the Aquidauana River in a motorboat. Animals can be observed particularly well from the water. For lunch you will return to the pousada and can rest a little before the next adventure: horseback riding through open fields, swamps, and streams. The horses are quiet and even those with little to no experience can participate. If you prefer not to ride a horse, you can go piranha fishing, a great opportunity to learn more about the culture and habits of the people of the Pantanal while observing the local flora and fauna.

Day 3: Photography and Wildlife Observation

In the morning you will go on a trip in an open four-wheel-drive vehicle. It is the best way to explore swamps and open grasslands and an ideal opportunity to observe and photograph numerous animals. In the afternoon you will go on a hike through dense vegetation and over open swamp plains with paths of various lengths. Your specialized guide will explain in detail the local flora and fauna and their special functions in the ecosystem of the Pantanal.

Day 4: Onward Journey to Bonito

Pousada Aguape to Bonito: 110 miles (178 km)
Spend a morning together with local cowboys and learn about everyday life in the Pantanal. After lunch your tour continues with your rental car to Bonito. You will give your guide a ride to the city of Aquidauana or Bonito while following quiet country roads. In the late afternoon you will check in at your accommodation and you can discover this small town on your own.

Day 5: Caves and Clear Blue Waters
Included: Self Drive Trip to Gruta Azul and Snorkeling in Rio Sucuri (private, 6h) | Rental Car | Breakfast
In the morning you will meet your English-speaking guide and set out for the Blue Lake Cave, the Gruta Lagoa Azul. Let yourself be enchanted by the bright blue underground lake. Afterwards you will continue to the Rio Sucuri. Here your tour will start with a short hike through a forest to the source of the river. From there, after a briefing with snorkeling equipment, you will drift downstream through the crystal-clear water. You can end the day as you wish and reflect on your impressions of the Pantanal.

Day 6: Departure to Campo Grande

Bonito to Campo Grande: 185 miles (300 km)
After six exciting days in the Pantanal, you will continue your journey and drive to Campo Grande to drop off your rental car. Depending on your departure schedule, you may have time to visit one of the natural attractions in the morning.
