Pousada do Buriti is located in the small village of Barreirinhas, not far from the famous Lencois Maranhenses National Park. Barreirinhas is the perfect place to relax and starting point for tours, hikes and safaris to the sand dunes of the National Park. The Lencois Maranhenses are the only desert area in Brazil and extend from the coastal line up to 25 miles (40 km) to the inland. During the day trips, visitors get beautiful impressions. After the rain season there are many lagoons in the dunes where visitors can take a bath. A few larger lagoons carry water the whole year round. From Pousada do Buriti it is a short drive of about 1.9 miles (3 kilometers) to the regional airport of Barreirinhas. The international airport of Sao Luis is about 155 miles (250 kilometers) away.
