Day 1: Arrival to Porto Alegre

You will pick up your car at the rental station at the airport in Porto Alegre and begin your journey through the versatile South of Brazil. Your first destination is the city of Bento Goncalves, which has not only been shaped by the landscape but is also the largest wine producer in the country and the national capital of wine. Relax at Pousada Borghetto Sant Anna, located about 10 minutes outside the city, and experience a touch of Tuscany and Provence in the midst of the region's vineyards. Explore the surroundings on a walk and in the evening, over a glass of wine in an exquisite ambience, get in the mood for the multifaceted journey over the next few days.

Day 2: Bento Goncalves and Surroundings

Bento Goncalves to Praia Grande: 125 miles (200 km)
Depending on whether you want to take it easy or make a few more stops along the way, an early start may be worthwhile today. Halfway between vineyards and canyons, if you are interested, a small detour will allow you to discover the two towns of Gramado and Canela with their numerous sights and first-class tourist offerings. Today's destination is the Pousada Morada dos Canyons, located between the towns of Praia Grande in the state of Santa Catarina and Cambara in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Enjoy an unforgettable evening in the impressive landscape of the Serra do Faxinal near the canyons of the Aparados da Serra and Serra Geral national parks.

Day 4: On the Way Through the Canyons

Today is at your disposal. From your accommodation you can reach two national parks within a radius of 6 miles (10 kilometers) as well as numerous other sights that promise to make your day an unforgettable experience. Here, in the midst of beautiful nature, you will encounter canyons that extend over 155 miles (250 kilometers) and are up to 2,953 feet (900 meters) deep. For some hikes a guide (optional) is recommended, and for others a fixed requirement. Across from the reception area of your accommodation you will find a small agency that will be happy to help you plan your day and arrange for a suitable guide.

Day 5: Road Trip to the Coast and Florianopolis

Praia Grande to Florianopolis: 180 miles (290 km)
After breakfast the last big stage of your journey awaits you. Plan a little more time in the village of Laguna on the coast. Here you can admire a very special spectacle. Dolphins, living in the lagoon, have developed a very special way of catching fish. They drive the fish towards the fishermen waiting on the shore with casting nets. The ambush is perfect and as soon as the nets fly, the dolphins grab their share of the fleeing fish. In this way both parties win, a unique phenomenon. In the afternoon you will reach Florianopolis and your accommodation in the district of Campeche. Only 3 minutes away, on a path from the pousada, the fabulous waves of the long beach of Campeche await you. Enjoy the unique location and end the day on the beach behind your accommodation or in a nice restaurant in the district.

Day 6: Leisure Day on "Magic Island"

Florianopolis, also called Floripa or "Magic Island", awaits you with a variety of sights and excursion options. In the south of the island you will find a very special highlight, Lagoinha do Leste, which many people call the most beautiful beach of Floripa. Discover this dream beach surrounded by cliffs and overgrown mountain slopes and its freshwater lagoon. Visit the lively district of Lagoa da Conceicao. You will find interesting stores and restaurants and you can take a short walk to admire the liveliness of this charming district. A little further north, you can go for a horseback ride along the extensive Mocambique beach or on a walk through the impressive dune landscape of Praia Joaquina. The brave can show off their sandboarding skills (full-day trip optional).

Day 7: Departure

Campeche to Airport: 10 miles (16 km)
If you leave in the afternoon, you may have time to visit the city center and stroll through the alleys of the colonial old town and the Mercado Publico. You could also enjoy the beach in peace and quiet before getting ready for your journey onward. After returning the rental car to the Florianopolis airport, you will board your flight and, if the weather is good, bid farewell to Floripa with its great location and green mountains from the air. The South of Brazil is already looking forward to seeing you again!
