Pousada Portas da Amazonia is located in the historic center of Sao Luis, in a colonial building from 1839, in the colonial district of Sao Luis, capital of the northern state of Maranhao. Pousada Portas da Amazonia impresses with its central location, close to many attractions of Sao Luis. In particular the district Praia Grande, with its beautifully ornate colonial buildings, is a highlight of Sao Luis and part of the UNESCO world heritage. Sao Luis is the perfect starting point for a tour to the National Park of the Lencois Maranhenses. This unique dune area is about 125 miles (200 kilometers) from Sao Luis by car, where the nearest international airport is located.
