Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to the Jungle

Included: Transfer with a Stop at the "Meeting of the Waters" (in-group, 3h) | Canoeing, Night Safari (in-group) | Lunch, Dinner

Your transfer to the Juma Amazon Lodge will pick you up in the morning at your hotel in Manaus. This journey in itself will be a small adventure. Through land and water transportation you will cross the “Meeting of the Waters,” see giant water lilies (seasonal), possibly spot pink dolphins, and gain first impressions of the Amazon Rainforest all before arriving to the lodge.

After arrival, a welcome drink, and lunch, your first excursion will begin. By canoe, the English-speaking guide will lead you through the system of bigger and smaller rivers to get in touch with the forest. You will also be able to swim in the river and, if you are lucky, you will spot pink dolphins.

After a delicious dinner at the lodge's restaurant, you will go on another excursion to observe nocturnal life and hopefully spot caimans.

Day 2: Bird Watching at Sunrise and Nature Hike

Included: Sunrise Tour, Jungle Hike, Piranha Fishing, Lecture (in-group) | Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The day will begin early to witness the spectacular Amazon sunrise and listen to the sound of the awaking jungle. The early morning hours are also a great time for bird watching.

After breakfast, with lots of tropical fruits, another excursion will head out. You will set off on an easy hike through the rainforest. Your guide will give you an understanding of the local flora and their use as medicine and food. You will also learn some jungle survival techniques and, if you are lucky, you might even spot some wildlife such as howler monkeys or macaws.

At midday, lunch will be served at the lodge restaurant. Afterwards you will you go on a fishing trip to catch piranhas for dinner (for those who like fish). Being on the boat fishing is also a good opportunity to scan the river slopes for wildlife. If you are lucky you might find a sloth hanging in the trees or an otter family playing in the water.

After dinner, one of the native guides will tell interesting stories about customs and traditions of the local people.

Day 3: Life in the Amazon

Included: Nature Hike with Picnic, Visit to a Local Community (in-group) | Breakfast, Picnic-Lunch, Dinner

Today you will go on a jungle hike. After breakfast the group will set out for another intimate encounter with the Amazon Rainforest. During the trip you will learn more about the fascinating flora and fauna. A special picnic-lunch will be prepared after the trek and you can enjoy the local cuisine before relaxing in a comfortable hammock.

In the afternoon you will visit a local community of "Caboclo Ribeirinhos." A native will talk about their life, how the community works, what they eat, and how they make a living.

At night dinner will be served at the lodge restaurant.

Day 4: Tall Trees and Small Creatures

Included: Visiting a Sumauma Tree, Tour Around the Lodge, Night-Safari (in-group) | Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast you will visit the largest tree species of the Amazon. The sumauma is the tallest tree, reaching up to 130 feet (40 meters) and also has the thickest trunk. In the afternoon, one of the guides will explain the architecture and infrastructure of the Juma Amazon Lodge and the role of sustainability within it.

After dinner you will embark on a jungle night walk. This is the time when animals make the most noise, which makes this experience incredibly authentic and exciting.

Day 5: Departure

Included: Transfer (in-group) | Breakfast

After breakfast you will return to Manaus. During the transfer, you will stop at a floating dock where you can see the huge pirarucu or arapaima fish which can reach up to 9.8 ft (3 m) and 440 lbs (200 kg). You will arrive to Manaus (airport or hotel) at around noon, hopefully with many new experiences and impressions in your luggage.

Info

  • All excursions and transfers will be done in small groups with other guests. The limit for baggage is 22 lbs (10 kg) per person. Excess baggage can be deposited in Manaus at the lodge's office or your hotel.
  • Additional lodge visitors can join the day trips and the transfers to / from Juma Amazon Lodge. However, this does not have to be the case.
  • The itinerary can be adjusted according to weather conditions. The order of excursions can change and animal sightings cannot be guaranteed.


Credit cards are not accepted at the lodge. Please bring some cash for additional expenses at the bar and restaurant.
