Five museums to visit in the Brazilian metropolis

São Paulo is the capital of the state of the same name in southeastern Brazil. The metropolis is geographically located between Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba. São Paulo Art Museum (MASP)

The museum, which was founded in 1947, is the most important art museum in Brazil with an extensive collection of paintings and sculptures from the 14th century to the present. Among the exhibited artists are van Gogh, Manet, Renoir, and Rembrandt. Admission is free of charge on Tuesdays.

Museu de Arte Moderna (MAM)

The Museum of Modern Art in São Paulo is located in the city park Parque do Ibirapuera. It was founded in 1948. The architecture of the building is reminiscent of all of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. On display are works of art by Malfatti, Os Gemeos, and Picasso, among others. On Saturdays, the museum can be visited free of charge.

Museu da Imagem e do Som de São Paulo (MIS)

The Museum of Visual and Auditory Arts was founded in 1970. It has a huge collection of 350,000 works of film, video, photography, and more. On Tuesdays, admission to the museum is free of charge.

Museu da Imigracao

The Immigrant Museum of the State of São Paulo tells the story of the immigration of people of different nations to Brazil. The building of the museum served as the first point of contact from 1887 to 1978. During this time, about 2.5 million people with over 70 ethnicities were registered here. On Saturdays the entrance is free.

Museu de Futebol

A must for every soccer fan: A visit to the soccer museum in São Paulo. The museum was opened in 2008 and serves to illustrate the cultural significance of soccer for Brazil's identity. You can follow the history of Brazilian soccer in the 20th century and of course, you will also meet icons like Pelé or Garrincha. On Saturdays, the museum can be visited free of charge.
