Food Trucks roll in

Those who get hungry on a trip to Brazil can always fall back on the varied and fresh offer of numerous food trucks. Food on wheels, the latest trend from the USA, which initially only conquered the streets of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, can now be found in numerous other cities. Many municipalities in Brazil have adapted their laws to simplify and regulate the sale of food on public roads. As rents for commercial space have now reached a very high level in urban centers, rolling restaurants offer an alternative. On the one hand, only a small initial investment is needed and on the other hand, the advantage of mobility is given.

Also in Florianopolis, on the "Ilha da Magia", the beautifully designed and restored food trucks are attracting more and more customers due to high quality, regional ingredients, and creative recipes. From traditional specialties to daring creations, from meat-heavy to vegan, there are dishes to suit all tastes and preferences. It is noticeable that the offer is beyond batata frita (French fries) and hot dogs. Instead, the menus offer exquisite dishes. Rice with crabs, meat combined with grilled pineapple, fruit smoothies, Blumenauer bratwursts, pizza with palmito (palm hearts), and fancy hamburgers are just a few examples.

In Floripa, the capital of the southern state of Santa Catarina, there are now more than a hundred of these traveling gourmet snack bars, whose owners are creative new gastronomes as well as operators of established restaurants. They announce the current position of their cars via social media, especially Facebook and Twitter. In this way, they offer Brazilian vacationers an eventful and lively insight into the country's typical cuisine.

So-called food parks, a collection of several snack bars with nice seating, also shoot out of all holes, especially in summer. The open-air dining opportunities are usually located near one of the over forty beaches of the island. What better way to recharge your batteries after a long day at the beach with stand-up paddling or a hike in the Atlantic Rainforest, with the sunset, good music, and fancy food?

To be found in:

  • Jurere
  • Ingleses
  • Santinho
  • Canasvieiras
  • Cachoeira do Bom Jesus
  • Campeche
  • Lagoa da Conceicao

Especially the location in the center of the Lagoa da Conceicao invites you to linger with a relaxed atmosphere, live music, and the adjacent skate park. The area resembles a village square. Everywhere you can find small groups chatting, laughing, dancing, and feasting. If you need proof that food makes you happy, you will find it here. The park is open daily from 6 pm to 1 am and attracts visitors with more than ten different food trucks.

Afterward, you can enjoy the colorful nightlife of Florianopolis. In one of the countless bars in Barra da Lagoa or the beach clubs on the north coast, you can party until dawn. Now that we've made your mouth water enough, it's time to look for the next exquisite snack near you and treat yourself to a treat. We wish you "Bom Apetite".
