Public Transportation in Florianópolis

June 13, 2022
Bus in Florianopolis

Planning to get around by public transportation on your Brazil trip? In Florianópolis no problem at all! First: don't look for trains or a metro. They don’t exist in the city, like almost everywhere in Brazil. Instead, Florianópolis has a well-developed bus network that works reliably. However, you should allow enough time for the trips, especially in the high season.

Tickets

A tour by bus costs 4.50 reais and is paid in cash at the front of the bus. Alternatively, you can buy a passe rápido for tourists. The pass is available at all bus stations, of which there are a total of six on the island. It can be purchased for 3 reais and charged with as much money as you would like to. The advantage is that you don't have to pay separately for each ride. Instead, you can conveniently hold the passe rápido up to the card reader at the front of the bus. One ride with it costs 4.38 reais.

Bus routes

The routes of the buses in Florianópolis are structured in such a way that all buses are connected to each other via central terminals. This also means that you can change buses at these stations without paying the fee again for the next bus. If you start your trip at one of these bus stations, you pay for the ride before you enter the terminal. The six central stations on the island are the following:

  • Ticen (city center)
  • Tilag (Lagoa de Conceição)
  • Titri (Trindade)
  • Tirio (Rio Tavares)
  • Tisan (Santo Antônio de Lisboa)
  • Tican (Canasvieiras)

To get from one place to another, you may have to change buses more than once, so a trip can take some time. For example, if you travel from the city center to Barra de Lagoa, you will have to change buses in both Titri and Tilag. In addition, the streets of Florianópolis get very crowded during the main holiday season from December to February.

How to find out about schedules and departure times

On the website you find all the lines of the bus network. There, you can plan trips for your holidays in Florianópolis and find out about the current hygiene regulations in public transport. Alternatively, use the app Floripanoponto, which can be downloaded from the App Store and Googleplay.

Our recommendation for a trip by bus

The good news is that you can explore the whole island by public transport. There is hardly a place you can't reach with it. There is one trip that we recommend in particular for your Brazil vacation: the hike to the beach Lagoinha do Leste. If you start from the city center, take a bus from Ticen to Tirio and change there to line 560, 562, or 564. All these buses will take you to Praia da Armação, which is the starting point of the spectacular hike. From there, you will reach the paradise beach Lagoinha do Leste, where you can take a refreshing bath in the ocean. Afterwards, you will continue the hike in the direction of Pantanal do Sul. Once you reach the end of the trail you will find yourself in front of a bus stop. From there, every bus will take you back to Tirio.
