Brazil Travel Packages: Belem

Belem is the capital of the state of Para and is located in the Guajara Bay, where the Rio Guama flows into the Rio Para. About 2 million people live in this city, making it the most populous urban area of the region. Other than Manaus, Belem is the most important city in the Amazon region. The "city of mango trees" combines a wide range of cultural activities with its close proximity to the rainforest. Many historical buildings were already erected in Belem during its founding around 1616. Beautiful places to visit would be the Metropolitan Cathedral with the largest Caville-Coll organ in Latin America, the local fish market "Ver-o-peso" and the restored port "Estação das Docas." There are numerous restaurants, small boutiques and original shops. Also, the ceramic exhibition of the Tapajon and Marajo Indians is worth a visit. Nature lovers also get their money's worth. On a trip to the 380,000 square feet (35,000 square meters) swamp area of "Mangal das Cargas," more than 300 bird and butterfly species await you. Life takes place on the streets and you should not miss the many entertainment possibilities, good restaurants and bars on your trip to Brazil. In Belem there are hot temperatures year round, ranging from 72 °F (22 °C) to 91 °F (33 °C). The months of October and November are especially attractive for sun worshippers with the highest temperatures, lots of sunshine and little rainfall. Most rain occurs between January and May.
