Brazil Travel Packages: Chapada dos Guimaraes

Chapada dos Guimaraes is a mountain range in the interior of Brazil. The small town of the same name, with 18,190 inhabitants, has charming small streets and rustic architecture. A true gem of the town would be the baroque-style church Nossa Senhora de Santana do Sacramento from 1779. Breathtaking nature awaits you in the "Parque Nacional de Chapada": countless caves, peaks, waterfalls, rock formations and a species-rich flora and fauna. Numerous hiking trails lead through beautiful landscapes with good tourist infrastructure. Across the 33,000-hectare terrain, visitors can discover more than 50 archaeological sites, rock paintings and prehistoric fossils. The wide range of leisure activities includes hiking, abseiling, canyoning, climbing, cave expeditions, trekking and environmental education. Again and again, hikers encounter waterfalls that promise a refreshing cool down. A particular highlight is the waterfall "Veu da Novia" (Bridal Veil). From the point of its drop (282 feet/86 meters) you can enjoy a unique panoramic view over the valley to Cuiaba. A special stop during your trip in Brazil would be the "Mirante do Centro Geodesico," a viewing platform in the geographical center of South America. In the heart of the continent you are now equidistant from both oceans, the Atlantic and the Pacific. Chapada dos Guimaraes is located in the tropics. This means that in the winter (June-September) there is much less rainfall than in the summer (December-March). Daily high temperatures range from 86 °F (25 °C) in the winter to 84 °F (29 °C) in the summer.
